Kirby and Riley first met during their junior year at Penn State at a meeting for a study abroad program in Granada, Spain. After that, they ran into each other again thanks to a mutual friend, although Kirby didn’t recall their first meeting and was confused when Riley asked if she was going to Granada. They then became Facebook friends and chatted briefly before going abroad. While Kirby planned to make new friends before heading to the foreign country, Riley still jokes that he became her “back up” friend for the trip. Once in Spain, they became close and spent the majority of their time together. They returned home and began dating, enjoying their senior year at Penn State together.

After graduating and moving to Pittsburgh, the couple eventually ended up back in Kirby’s hometown of Wildwood to pursue careers here. A few months after settling in, Kirby and Riley planned a birthday dinner for Kirby at her parents’ house. That day, Kirby’s sister, Shelby, asked Kirby and Riley to go down to the beach with her and her boyfriend, Alex, to take some photos. After Kirby took photos of Shelby and Alex, Shelby insisted on taking photos of Kirby and Riley. “I have a special present for you, but you have to answer one question first,” Riley said as they posed for a photo. He got down on one knee and popped the question, and Kirby said yes! Then, the four of them headed back to the house to celebrate the newly engaged couple with their family.

Kirby and Riley decided to get married in Cape May County so the wedding was close to their family and friends. After visiting multiple venues in the area, the beauty of Avalon Links Restaurant captivated them; plus, Riley has worked on golf courses all of his life, so it was the perfect fit.

“The wedding was the best day of our lives!” Kirby recalls. “The staff at Avalon Links was very knowledgeable and professional throughout the entire process, and I knew I could trust them with our special day.”

Every single part of the day went flawlessly, and the rain even held out so they were able to exchange vows with the gorgeous grounds of the golf course as the backdrop. Barbara’s Sea Shell Florist added even more beauty to the day with bouquets and floral arrangements full of blush garden roses, burgundy zinnias, white dahlias and green eucalyptus. After the ceremony, everyone headed inside for delicious food and desserts, silly photo booth photos and a fun time on the dance floor.

“It couldn't have been better,” says Kirby.
