How to Get Married on the Beaches of Cape May County

There’s nothing better than saying “I Do” with South Jersey’s beautiful beaches as your backdrop. If you’re considering exchanging vows on one of Cape May County’s beaches, here’s all you need to know about obtaining approval or permits, fees, restrictions and who to contact.


AVALON

Permit/Approval Required: Yes

Fees: None

Insurance Required: No

Additional Info: Beach receptions, open flames, alcohol, temporary structures and amplified music are not permitted

CAPE MAY

Permit/Approval Required: Yes

Fees: $25 fee for 20 or more guests at a city location; $225 fee if married by the mayor; $75 administration fee

Insurance Required: No

Additional Info: Aside from Cape May’s beaches, Kiwanis Park, Rotary Park and Sunset Pavilion are also available for ceremonies; chairs and arbors are allowed; beach receptions, alcohol and benches are not permitted

CAPE MAY POINT

Permit/Approval Required: Yes; must complete Facilities Use Application and Hold Harmless/Indemnification Agreement at least 30 days in advance

Fees: $50 application fee; $250 refundable deposit, returned after event contingent upon a satisfactory inspection by the Department of Public Works

Insurance Required: Yes; must submit Certificate of Insurance

Additional Info: Aside from Cape May Point’s beaches, the Cape May Point Pavilion Circle is also available for ceremonies; event cannot exceed four hours; a maximum of 100 guests and chairs is permitted; alcohol, the release of birds, butterflies, other living creatures or balloons, and the use of rice are not permitted

LOWER TOWNSHIP

Permit/Approval Required: No

Insurance Required: No

Additional Info: Beach receptions and alcohol are not permitted

NORTH WILDWOOD

North Wildwood does not allow beach weddings.


OCEAN CITY

Permit/Approval Required: Yes; must complete a Beach Wedding Permit Application

Fees: None

Insurance Required: No

Additional Info: Chairs and decorations are allowed and must be taken down within reasonable time after the wedding; if considering 58th or 59th Street beach, please call to check for availability

SEA ISLE CITY

Permit/Approval Required: No

Fees: None

Insurance Required: No

Additional Info: Aside from Sea Isle City’s beaches, the Pavilion at JFK Boulevard & Boardwalk and Gazebo at Townsend’s Inlet are also available for ceremonies; beach tags are required for the bridal party and all guests; chairs can be used for elderly guests or guests with disabilities; beach receptions, alcohol and fires are not permitted

Additional Info: Aside from Wildwood Crest’s beaches, Beach Pier, Centennial Park, Sunrise Park at Rambler Road, Sunset Lake Gazebo and Coleman-Callahan Veterans Park are also available for ceremonies; chairs and arbors are allowed; beach receptions, tents, alcohol and open fires are not permitted
