Small details drew Nicole and Daniel Gomez to ICONA Avalon, a beachside resort in the heart of Avalon. The subtle blue colors, the “relaxing vibe,” and soft-sand beaches nearby made the decision easy, Nicole told Weddings by the Beach.
Nicole and Daniel picked their venue quickly, but their romance was a long-time coming. They skirted each other’s social circles in high school but didn’t hit it off until a chance meeting at a dive bar several years later- with the help of a few Corona lights. After six years together, Dan proposed during a family vacation in Florida.
As the wedding day approached, so did Tropical Storm Ophelia. With 40-mile-an-hour winds and the relentless onslaught of rain, it became evident that an outdoor ceremony was no longer feasible.
Despite the disappointment of a last-minute change of plans, Nicole and Dan remained calm and focused. With the guidance and reassurance of ICONA’s wedding coordinators, Alyssa, Courtney, and Kaitlyn, they adapted quickly, and the ceremony was moved to ICONA’s spacious, furnished veranda.
While the storm raged outside, Nicole and Dan exchanged their vows in the intimate and cozy atmosphere of the closed-in space, surrounded by their closest family and friends. The sound of rain tapping against the windows became a soothing backdrop, adding an unexpected charm to the occasion.
Although the beach vision may have been diminished, the Veranda ceremony turned out to be everything Nicole and Dan could have hoped for and more. The swift turnover for the cocktail hour ensured that the festivities continued seamlessly, with guests enjoying delicious appetizers and drinks as they celebrated the newlyweds.
Many of the guests stayed on-site in ICONA’s many rooms and suites, so transportation wasn’t an issue. Nicole said getting ready for her big day was easy for her and her bridesmaids because of ICONA’s on-site spa. ICONA Avalon is one of a series of high-end resorts in Cape May County. Brilliant white interiors, splashes of nautical blue, and a design that brings the light and beauty of the outdoors together to create a truly alluring destination for a celebration.
The venue has packages that can be tailored to every couple’s needs. The Seaglass Ballroom can accommodate a larger, more formal gathering. The smaller Ohana Room is perfect for more intimate gatherings, and the beautiful veranda is great for cocktail hours and serves as a convenient step-away place from the ballroom.
And if a storm approaches, there’s no need to worry! ICONA has your back and will make sure your wedding goes off without a hitch, no matter what Mother Nature has in mind.
