It only made sense for Emily and Matthew to seal their marriage in the most beautiful, meaningful place they know. Emily, born and raised in Cape May County, moved away for college in 2009 to Jacksonville Beach, Florida. While in college, she met Matthew. When visiting Matthew’s family in South Florida in the early stages of dating, she noticed a picture of him and his siblings as toddlers on the beach in front of the Cape May Point row boat! Turns out, he spent a majority of his childhood along the same beaches Emily grew up on, as his grandfather had a house right in Cape May Point.

For months, Matthew tricked Emily into believing they were going on a mini vacation with his parents in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Part of the itinerary included a day adventure on Cumberland Island. The so called “tour” ended in a proposal at Dungeness ruins of Cumberland Island under a pergola built in 1885. What Emily thought was just supposed to be a day trip to the island, turned into a long weekend at the Greyfield Inn, a 1900s home turned into a historic B&B, which provides the only accommodations for Cumberland Island. Their weekend surprise turned into a proposal. It was a fairytale come true!

Emily and Matthew’s wedding week started with packing the car and road tripping from Florida to New Jersey with their dog Andie along for the ride. When they finally made it to New Jersey, it was a mix of last minute wedding prep, while also eating at all of Emily’s favorite restaurants growing up and showing Matthew all her favorite spots!

Despite a thunderstorm that rolled in during pictures and lasted through cocktail hour, Emily remained calm! At this point all she could do was laugh it off and go along with what they were handed! Emily kept thinking she didn’t care what happened because she was marrying her best friend, in the most beautiful place, surrounded by the people she loves the most!

As the water calmed amongst the Cape May Yacht Club harbor, the rain trickled on the tent as they became husband and wife. The sun came out and so did a beautiful rainbow! Emily and Matthew said nothing will ever come close to a better day than they had on their wedding day.
