Ami and Aaron met ten years ago, but it would be quite some time before the two fell in love and started planning their perfect holiday wedding in Cape May! In 2010, a mutual friend invited Ami to a party at Aaron’s house and she decided to stop by. The two were friendly, but sparks didn’t fly that first night. Over the next seven years, they ran into each other occasionally while dropping off deposits at a local bank for their family businesses, but their interactions were nothing more than a smile and a wave. In November 2017, Ami reached out to Aaron on Facebook after a conversation with Aaron’s aunt, who works with Ami. After a few weeks, the two reconnected over dinner in Cape May and have been inseparable ever since. After six months, they knew that they were in it for the long haul so Ami moved into their home before the busy summer season started!
In August 2018, Ami and Aaron were spending their days off relaxing at Higbee Beach in Cape May. Ami was reading a book, so Aaron walked down the beach to search for shells and sea glass. When he came back and showed Ami his treasures, one stood out among the rest: a beautiful, vintage engagement ring! Aaron had planned the proposal all along and hid Ami’s dream ring in with the shells, coral, and sea glass he collected. She said yes and the two relaxed in their chairs on the beach before they had to go back to reality and start planning the winter wedding of their dreams.
Ami and Aaron knew they wanted to celebrate their big day at Aleathea’s Restaurant at The Inn of Cape May, which is Ami’s family’s hotel. They loved the mismatched tables and chairs, the antiques throughout the room, and the classic Christmas decorations that would be up for the holiday season so the decision was simple.
Before the wedding, Ami’s friends threw her a fall-themed bridal shower at The Cape May-Lewes Ferry. They chose to have the shower at the ferry because the room had large, floor-to-ceiling windows with a beautiful view of the water and enough space for all her friends and family. Ami’s friends decorated the room with pumpkins and hay bales for the perfect, fall-themed event leading up to their big Christmas wedding.
When it was time to shop for her wedding dress, Ami scheduled an appointment at Free Love Bridal. When she walked in, the stylists kicked off her luxury bridal experience with cupcakes and champagne for all of her guests! After trying on a few dresses, her dad stopped by and pointed out a dress on a mannequin. Sure enough, that was the dress Ami chose! Free Love Bridal was able to help her customize the wedding dress by adding sleeves to the dress she fell in love with and Ami could not have been happier!
When the day finally arrived, Ami and Aaron were on cloud nine. The couple had full confidence in the decorators leading up to the wedding, but they were blown away by the decorations at Aleathea’s Restaurant when they saw them for the first time. The decorators truly brought their Pinterest winter wedding inspiration to life with ribbons, centerpieces, ornaments, and more, and even managed to incorporate multi-colored lights around the bar at Aaron’s request. The couple originally planned to have a prolonged cocktail hour for the reception because neither are big dancers, but once the bands took over, guests couldn’t help but dance the night away.
“Everything was all so easy because we worked with such great people and everyone did an awesome job,” Ami says. “It was so nice to celebrate with our families and I think everyone had a great time.”
