Amy & Josh

The Inn of Cape May

November 4, 2023

The Inn of Cape May, a Victorian-style waterfront bed and breakfast, restaurant, bar, and historic site just steps from the beach on the Cape May waterfront, holds a special place in Amy and Josh’s hearts. Amy Pretz, the bride, stayed here every summer as a kid. She remembers waking up early and skipping over to Cape May’s most charming spots – the Washington Street Mall, the beach with its gorgeous sunrises, the surrounding historic district – thanks to the Inn’s location in the center of Cape May.

It was Amy’s dream to get married in Cape May. The Inn of Cape May made it easy, and things at the historic inn have changed dramatically for the better since she was a kid. The updated accommodations made this a no-brainer choice, especially because she wanted a wedding venue where her guests could spend the night.

“Josh and I were thrilled that the Inn maintained its original charm while providing some wonderful updates to the overall look and feel of the building,” she told Weddings by the Beach. Josh, who does not have lifelong memories at the venue, didn’t take much to be convinced. Small details – like the old-fashioned door keys that each guest is given upon check-in – won him over fast.

Amy and Josh were looking for a venue that could handle every aspect of their wedding. They wanted the whole thing to take place on-site: the ceremony, cocktail hour, and the reception. The couple planned much of the wedding themselves but said that the Inn’s wedding planner, Jeri Anne Gerace, was hands-on whenever the couple needed her.

The Inn’s on-site accommodations made this a true destination wedding for folks coming from out of town. The Inn’s rustic interior has the feeling of a vintage Victorian manor. Every guest’s room was elegantly, timelessly themed. Guests could enjoy drinks and food at Ocean 7, the Inn’s restaurant and bar, and didn’t have to drive to a faraway hotel or Airbnb. Amy’s wedding party put their makeup and hair together in a special room at the Inn.

Amy and Josh met during COVID. Amy said that that first year of dating was brutal; it was hard to imagine safely coming to a resort town like Cape May. But years later, she lived her dream wedding at the Inn of Cape May, with her friends and family on-site for all of it.

On the day of their wedding, Amy and Josh strolled around town taking photos of places that they hold dear. Amy loves that she now has pictures in the same locations at the Inn as a little girl growing up and on her wedding day.

The wedding itself took place on the Inn’s massive lawn that sits just in front of the beautiful Cape May promenade on Beach Ave. The Inn’s mighty architecture looked great in photos, Amy said. Amy’s little sister led the ceremony in a touching twist. As she said her vows, Amy told the crowd – holding back tears – that it was her dream to get married here at the Inn of Cape May. Mission accomplished.
