Caroline and Kendrick met in June 2012 while out for drinks at a sports bar in Princeton. Although the two did not know each other, their groups were standing close to one another and eventually everyone started talking. Caroline and Kendrick immediately hit it off. After a few hours, Caroline texted her friend, I think I just met my husband. Spoiler alert: she was right! At the end of the night, they exchanged numbers on a bench across the street while they waited for their rides.
Five and a half years later, Caroline and Kendrick went back to Princeton during Christmastime. Caroline was under the impression they were in town to help her sister move into a new apartment, but Kendrick had bigger plans in mind. After walking around and exploring the stores, he brought her back to the same bench they sat on the night they met, got down on one knee in the snow, and proposed. Caroline said yes! The newly engaged couple continued their walk down memory lane and headed to a local brewery where they went on one of their first dates. The surprises did not stop there! Kendrick had secretly invited some of their closest friends and family to celebrate their engagement and kick off the beginning of their forever together.
Cape May held a special place in Caroline’s heart after years of vacationing on the island growing up, so it was the couple’s first choice when choosing a wedding location. Since Kendrick is from Wisconsin, they also wanted their out of town guests to be able to enjoy a nice weekend getaway at the shore.
When Caroline and Kendrick toured The Grand Hotel, they knew it was the perfect venue to make their dream wedding come to life. The couple met with Katlyn, the wedding coordinator, and started planning their spring wedding. Throughout the process, Katlyn was available to answer every question the couple had and went above and beyond to make sure the couple was happy and prepared for their big day!
Caroline loves crafting, so she decided to create some of the smaller details, including the groomsmen’s starfish boutonnieres. She recruited her college roommate, a floral designer, to handle all the floral arrangements for the big day, which pulled the couple’s vision together perfectly.
When May 17 finally arrived, the weather could not have been better! Although it was overcast, the guests were able to enjoy the beautiful views of the beach from the second-floor sundeck during the ceremony. As Caroline walked down the aisle, a boat drove by with a banner that read “Caroline & Kendrick Tie the Knot,” a surprise the bride’s mother arranged. Caroline walked down the aisle to meet Kendrick with her father by her side and “Jersey Girl” by Bruce Springsteen playing in the background. Clearance Lear, the mayor of Cape May, officiated the ceremony, and just as he pronounced them husband and wife, the sun came out!
Caroline and Kendrick headed out to the beach to take pictures on the beach while their guests headed upstairs to The Grand’s beautiful fifth floor to start celebrating at the reception. The speeches, food, dancing, and dessert were all fantastic and the couple could not have been happier.
“It was the perfect day and night with all our loved ones from near and far,” Caroline shared.
