Peter Shields Inn offers an intimate setting to hold a wedding in historic Cape May; it resembles a historical manor, and the famous Cape May beaches are just across the street.
Located just a few blocks from the center of Cape May, the Peter Shields Inn offers proximity to the hustle and bustle of town while maintaining the privacy of a smaller gathering.
Zachary and Danielle Gubitosi originally planned to have their wedding on the beach, with the reception inside the Peter Shields Inn. But when they realized Tropical Storm Ophelia was going to blow through on the same day, they knew they had to change plans.
Crediting their planner, Amy Gotthardt with the Peter Shields Inn, they said “the venue was amazing on the day of the wedding as we went from plan A to plan B to plan C!”
What was supposed to be a casual “take off their shoes and relax in the sun” beach ceremony, turned into an elegant, indoor ceremony on the steps of the main entrance of the Inn. Danielle and Zachary loved how special the moment was, even if this was not how they had planned it.
The Peter Shields Inn was extremely accommodating to the last-minute changes, and the Gubitosi’s said that Amy “really made what could’ve been a hectic day run smoothly!”
The couple chose this venue because Danielle had visited Cape May every summer since she was young, and Zachary joined her as they began their relationship. Citing the Peter Shields Inn as an “icon of Cape May,” they knew the view and delicious restaurant would be the perfect fit for their big day.
The historic beachfront mansion that brought Zachary and Danielle so much joy features nine guest rooms where couples and their close friends and family can stay for the weekend of the wedding. Guests, the couple, and their wedding parties could get ready right in their rooms.
The property features five interior dining spaces, a front porch, and a newly added front lawn patio. Zachary and Danielle said they felt like they were inviting guests to their home for the day, not to a standard wedding venue.
Peter Shields’ Inn, thanks to their executive chef and his team, have worked hard to make the Inn one of the top-rated restaurants in all of New Jersey. The catered food isn’t an afterthought, it’s part of the main draw.
On the day of the ceremony, Cape May Flower Co. adapted to the change of plans and worked with the Peter Shields Inn to decorate the staircase so the couple could still utilize the decorations they had planned for a beach wedding.
Say I Do Hair + Makeup also prepared for the weather and drove through the storm early in the morning to ensure they got to the wedding in time.
Though they had to host most of the day indoors, their photographer, Ron Soliman, was able to capture some beautiful shots of the couple standing in puddles and walking through rain and crashing waves on the beach during a break in the storm.
