Rachel and John are nearly as passionate about golf as they are about each other, but their love of the game only partly explains why Avalon Golf Club was the right fit for their wedding reception.

The couple sought a scenic, full-service, indoor/outdoor venue. Located just minutes from the beach and flanked by lush fairways that blend seamlessly into the Cape landscape, Avalon Golf Club met their criteria.

In addition to indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces, the club offers getting- ready rooms and an expansive deck overlooking the 18th hole. The deck was ideal for Rachel and John’s cocktail hour.

“It was the nicest place for everyone to hang out,” the bride said. “You could see the 18th hole and putting green from our space at the venue. We had roughly 180 people and the space fit us all easily.”

Whether a couple chooses to invite 250-plus guests or host an intimate dinner for 25, Avalon Golf Club and Links Restaurant can accommodate. In fact, up to 400 people can fit in the entire building.

The venue combines a classic and timeless atmosphere with modern touches that can easily be transformed to showcase a personal vision. The space features a neutral color palette, lots of windows providing natural light, and a second-to-none view of the scenic golf course, which serves as a built-in backdrop to complement any decor.

Rachel and John got to know each other in a place familiar to anyone with Philly ties: Chickie’s and Pete’s, where Rachel was biding her time before medical school. She and John got to know each other gradually during their shared Sunday shifts. After six years of dating, John proposed.

Rachel told Weddings by the Beach that John was devoted to making their relationship work. “He came with me on interviews for medical school and was prepared to move wherever the wind took us,” she said. “He proposed at his sister’s house on Easter Sunday with both of our families there. We got married right before I started my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Pennsylvania.”

In addition to the classic wedding hors d’oeuvres provided by Avalon Golf Club, cocktail hour also featured Chickie’s & Pete’s famous Crabfries®, a symbolic throwback to where they met.

Avalon Links Restaurant, a full-service venue, provided the catering. After a tasting, Rachel chose herb chicken alfredo, dill salmon, and surf & turf for the main courses. “I still have people almost a year later telling me how good the food at our wedding was,” she said.

Rachel and John’s ceremony took place in nearby Cape May. Vows were exchanged at the historic Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. The happy couple posed for photos with Cape May’s famous Victorian architecture serving as backdrop.

Likewise, Avalon Golf Club’s 18-hole golf course provided an exquisite photo opportunity. John and his groomsmen set up a fun photoshoot on one of the greens. Meanwhile, the bridesmaids gathered for photos at one of the course’s wooden gazebos. The luxuriant fairways stretched out as far as the eye could see, filling each wedding photo with enchanting scenery.

Avalon Golf Club is conveniently located on US-9 in Cape May Court House, right off the Garden State Parkway. It is a short drive from any of the peninsula’s shore towns, from Ocean City down to Cape May.
