In a picturesque farm house on Christmas morning, Nic Servis donned
his best suit and waited for his girlfriend Sarah Weber to come downstairs to open presents. When she finally arrived, she was still in PJs, nursing a hangover.
Sarah had only asked for a Patagonia jacket for Christmas, and was happy that Nic obliged. As she tried the jacket on, however, Nic told her there was something else for her in the pocket — you can probably guess what that was.
Sarah pulled out the ring box, and Nic dropped to his knee. Wedding planning ensued.
Sarah and Nic knew they wanted to marry in Cape May, as they share a deep fondness for the quaint and charming town. With a choice of five venues, including the newly renovated Grand Ballroom, The Grand Hotel of Cape May has become “the premier wedding venue and resort in South Jersey,” according to Katlyn Mogavero, director of sales and marketing at The Grand Hotel and an ACPWC Certified Professional Wedding Planner.
As a certified wedding planner, Mogavero is a couple’s point person from start to
finish, handling everything from outside vendors and keeping an eye on the fickle Cape May weather patterns to fixing bustles and ensuring the bride and groom stay hydrated throughout the day.
“The moment we walked into The Grand Hotel and met Katlyn, I knew The Grand was going to be where we would get married,” Sarah says. “Katlyn was personable, excited, professional, thorough, and fun from the very beginning. I trusted her with everything.”
Mogavero says there are several reasons why a couple would choose The Grand, but perhaps the biggest selling point comes from being a full-service resort.
“(We can provide the) rehearsal dinner, welcome reception, the after party at Hemingway’s, and the post-wedding breakfast. And all guests can stay on site,” Mogavero says. “(Couples) do not have to book multiple venues to complete their wedding weekend. And our couples love the amenities we can offer their guests such as pool and beach food service, the pool bar, beach cabanas and more!”
Though it rained the day of the wedding, the entire party was thrilled that it stopped long enough to get through the ceremony located on the resort’s sundeck, before revelers entered the ballroom for an elegant dinner. The couple and their guests raved about the food selections that included Chilean sea bass and herb-crusted filet.
“Everything was cooked to perfection,” exclaims Sarah, adding, “The Grand Hotel was a one-stop shop for us when it came to our guests having a place to stay and having a place for a welcome gathering and our afterparty — which was basically a nightclub by the end of the night for us.
“Everyone I spoke to kept talking about how it was truly the BEST wedding they’ve ever been to, from the food and drinks to the band and dancing. It was truly just the best experience all around.”
